Women's Tennis Plays at MWC Singles Tournament

MADISON, Wisconsin—The Prairie Fire women's tennis team competed in the singles portion of the MWC Individual Tournament on Sunday.
 
Before the matches, Knox was honored with the MWC Sportsmanship Award.
 
#1 Bhumika Gupta lost a close match to Illinois College 3-6, 4-6 in the opening round, but came back to defeat Beloit and Cornell 8-1 to win the consolation final.
 
Himani Patel fell 1-6, 1-6 in the opening round of #2 singles and then lost 0-8 in the consolation semifinal.
 
Kathryn Allee lost to Illinois College 0-6, 1-6 in the #3 opening round before losing to Monmouth 0-8 in the consolation semifinal.
 
At #4, Grace Kostopoulos fell to Beloit 3-6, 1-6 in the opening round. She then dropped the consolation semifinal 2-8 to Monmouth.
 
Laurel Stugart fell 1-6, 2-6 to Illinois College at #5 and then lost the consolation semifinal 3-8.
 
Miranda Zuckerman lost a close 4-6, 7-5 match at #6 to Beloit before falling 1-8 in the consolation semifinal against Monmouth.
 
"I am very proud of the team for battling the entire weekend," said head coach Meredith Witherell. "Our resiliency and determination won us another Sportsmanship Award."
