JACKSONVILLE, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated the Illinois College Blue Boys by a score of 5-0. The impressive victory gives the team a winning record in conference play and provides some positives to build on.
Â
Adetayo Adefioye continued his impressive streak of games by using his speed to score the game's first goal in the 2nd minute. Only two minutes later, Adefioye sped past the Blue Boys defense and doubled both his and the game's goal total. Holding strong in Illinois College's half, the Prairie Fire scored yet again in the 13th minute, with Nick Janulis being assisted nicely by Adefioye. Seven minutes later, the Blue Boys gave away a penalty kick, which Raphael Adeyemi dutifully converted to put Knox up by an insurmountable four goals. Despite some impressive playmaking by Pedro Moura later on in the half, no more goals would come, and the first half would close with the score remaining 4-0.
Â
The second half saw Knox make a mass substitution. The team didn't play as aggressively as they had in the first half, as they only managed to get two shots off in the first 20 minutes of the half, although Adefioye had a near miss that almost secured him a hat trick. Jake Totty and Moura continued to have creative chances on goal, and they paved the way for Kgatiso Mangoegape to score Knox's fifth goal in the 78th minute. Knox continued to push against the Blue Boys defense the rest of the game, and they finished by retaining their impressive five goal victory.
Â
"It was nice to head into halftime with a sizable lead," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "We will get back to work as we head into the Monmouth game."

The Prairie Fire look to build a winning streak this Tuesday against Monmouth College at 3:30 p.m.
