GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team fell to Eureka 83-76 in overtime on Wednesday night.
Knox took an early 21-13 lead after one quarter of play and led 41-29 at halftime.
The Red Devils used an 18-12 third quarter to creep back into the game and took their first lead of the game with 6:44 to play.
The Prairie Fire retook the lead on a free throw by NaKeva Mack and a three-pointer by Nyah Daniels with 5:06 left in the game. The teams tied at 61-all and 63-all, but Eureka took a 65-63 lead with just under three minutes to play.
A three-pointer by Catessa Duran with 1:39 to play gave Knox a 68-67 lead and a jumper by Jordyn Dole expanded the lead by three.
The Red Devils hit a trey with just over a minute on the clock to tie the game at 70-70, but the Prairie Fire missed their last second attempt and the game went to overtime.
Saxon Alvarez gave Knox an early advantage in the extra period with a three-pointer, but Eureka used a 10-1 run to take a six point lead with 35 seconds left in the game. The Red Devils held on for the victory.
Jarrelyn McCall led Knox with 17 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double in as many games. Duran joined her with 14 points and 15 boards. Kyra Huffman added 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Alvarez grabbed 10 boards.
"We just had a bad run at the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth quarter," said head coach Emily Cline. "We have some things we need to work on, but we are capable of winning these games."
Knox returns to action on November 16 when they travel to Central for their first road game of the season.
