Women's Basketball Defeats Grinnell

GALESBURG, Illinois— The Knox Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated the Grinnell College Pioneers this Saturday, winning by comfortable 79-57 margin. The victory gives the Prairie Fire a five game winning streak and continues an impressive start to the season.

The first two quarters saw Knox display a dominant performance on both sides of the court. On the defensive side, the Prairie Fire held the Pioneers to only 24% from the field while forcing 15 turnovers. Offensively, they used efficient shooting and plenty of quick cuts to put up plenty of buckets. Jarrelyn McCall put up 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while Kyra Huffman had both six points and six rebounds for the Prairie Fire. The dominance of the game by Knox meant that they entered the half up by 36-21.

Knox continued playing to their strengths in the final two quarters as they maintained their large lead. Jessica Lee scored 10 points and gathered two rebounds as she used her physical play to get good looks throughout the half. Defensively, the Prairie Fire forced 11 more turnovers, using their quick hands and pressure to force miscues from the Pioneers. The half ended with Knox building on its lead and playing comfortable, exciting basketball.

McCall finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Prairie Fire. Jessica Lee added 14 points and Kyra Huffman scored 12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to complete a double-double.

"I thought we played a complete game today," said head coach Emily Cline. "It was nice to see us compete for 40 minutes. Jarrelyn, Kyra, and Jessica all had very solid all-around games."

The Prairie Fire will look back to non-conference play when they host Lincoln Christian next Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
