Baseball Falls to Albright in 15-inning Game

AUBURNDALE, Florida—The Prairie Fire lost a nail biter to the Albright College Lions on Monday, falling by a score of 2-1 in 15 innings. While Knox's pitching was excellent throughout, Albright's pitching was equally tough and managed to stifle the Knox offense a bit more in this marathon contest.

Knox and Albright didn't manage much on the basepaths until the third inning, when a Kobe Shutter single nearly brought in Juston Woodard, only for him to be cut down on a close play at the plate. Several three-up, three-down innings followed this, until the top of the seventh, when the Lions managed to get runners on first and third with two outs. Fortunately for the Prairie Fire, Stryker Davies got out of the jam by getting a strikeout and preserving a scoreless tie. Knox's starting pitcher, Andrew Ponce, had a stellar afternoon, going six strong innings while letting up only three hits and walking two.

After several more opportunities did not pan out for either side, the game entered extra innings. EJ Roncone pitched well in long relief for Knox, throwing five innings and sitting down four batters on strikes. Unfortunately for the Prairie Fire, Albright's pitching was up to the task as well, and by the 15th, each time was looking to take this game home. The Lions found a break first, as several walks, a passed ball, and a hit batter netted them their only two runs of the game. Knox tried to answer back in the bottom of the inning, with Chris McTeague scoring on an error, but it was not enough to escape the defeat.

Spencer Bauer led the Knox offense with two hits in five at bats.

"We had several missed opportunities in this game," said associate head baseball coach James Clark. "We will get back to work this week in practice to remedy some of our offensive approaches. The pitching staff really finished the Florida trip strong and our defense is improving daily. Lots of good things this week."

The Prairie Fire's next game will be back in the confines of the Midwest, as they seek to win a doubleheader against Beloit College this Saturday starting at 12:00 pm.
