Softball Falls Twice at Webster

WEBSTER GROVES, Missouri – After splitting Saturday's doubleheader, the Prairie Fire were back on the field today as they took a visit to Webster University.

Mady Ferris got the offense started for the Prairie Fire with a single up in the middle in the top of the first inning in game one. Katy Coseglia got in the action with a single of her own, but Knox could not get any runs across.

Webster University would crack open the scoring by adding a run to the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. After both teams went scoreless in the third inning, the bats came alive during the fourth inning for the Webster when the Gorloks scored eight innings runs to seal the game one victory.

The Prairie Fire started off game two with three runs in the top of the first. A triple from Katy Coseglia would send two runners home, and then a single from Casey Hipp would send Coseglia home. A three-up, three-down from Webster at the bottom of the inning would give the Prairie Fire a 3-0 lead.

The explosion from the Prairie Fire would continue in the second inning as they added another three runs. Katy Coseglia continued her hot start to the season by hitting a home-run. This time, however, Webster would retaliate in the bottom of the inning, adding three runs of their own.

Knox would hold control of the lead until the bottom of the fourth when a three-run inning by Webster would give the Gorloks a one-run lead. The Prairie Fire's bats would dry up as Webster added another run of their own making the final score 9-7.

Coseglia and Kenzie Funk each earned three hits on the day. Coseglia also finished with five RBI.

The Prairie Fire will look to bounce back March 27 as they travel to Iowa Wesleyan.
