MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - Looking to bounce back from two losses on Sunday, Knox College played the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The Tigers took an early lead in game one with a run in the bottom of the first inning and three more in the second.
Â
Iowa Wesleyan would score two more runs in the fifth and the game looked to be over until the top of the sixth when the Prairie Fire scored four critical runs to stay in the game. A home-run by sophomore Clare Hensley provided that added punch that the Fire needed. The rally, however, would fall short as the offense could only muster one run in the seventh and fell 6-5.
Â
In game two, the Prairie Fire offense started with a run in the firs inning thanks to an RBI by Katy Coseglia. The Tigers offense came alive early and scored seven in the bottom half to take a commanding lead. Iowa Wesleyan held on for the 13-2 victory.
Â
Coseglia notched three hits on the day along with three RBI. Britney Salinas and Casey Hipp each added two hits.
Â
"After the first inning of the first game we pulled our defense together and played a great game," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "In game two we just ran out of gas against a great Iowa Wesleyan team. They should have a very successful season. It was a great prep for our conference play starting next week."
Â
The Prairie Fire will host Mount Mary University and Blackburn College on March 30.
