GALESBURG, Illinois—The Knox College Prairie Fire baseball team defeated the Robert Morris-Peoria Eagles by a final score of 13-2 today at Blodgett Field in Galesburg. The win today gives them their third win of the season, and provides them with some momentum as they head into conference play.Â
The Prairie Fire got the scoring started in the bottom of the second, when a Juston Woodard single drove in Joseph Salazar. The next batter, Brendan Powers, drove in Hunter Drish with a single of his own, while Woodard also scored on an error that play. That would conclude the scoring for the second, but the next inning the Prairie Fire offense would explode and comfortably put the game away.
The first of multiple wild pitches in the third scored Kobe Shutter, and Dalton James on an Andrew Kirchmeier single. After the bases became juiced, a Drish double scored Kirchmeier and Charlie Gibbons. The Prairie Fire kept the line moving, as a Powers single created another run for Knox. Two more wild pitches allowed Woodard and Drish to touch home plate, driving the Knox lead up to 10-0 and capping the scoring that inning. Despite letting up two runs due to bases loaded walks in the fifth, Knox got those runs right back and then some with Shutter and Nick Piller singles driving in three runs and pushing the final score up to 13-2.
"It was a good win today heading into conference this weekend," said associate head coach James Clark. "We executed in all facets today and will look to continue hitting this weekend."Â
Knox looks to continue their success this Saturday at Monmouth College starting at 12 pm.
