MONMOUTH, Illinois—The Prairie Fire softball team dropped a doubleheader to rival Monmouth on Wednesday afternoon.
Knox got the scoring started in game one when Katy Coseglia stole second base and Britney Salinas scored on an error by the second baseman. The Scots quickly rebounded with nine runs in the second inning and earned the win in five innings.
Monmouth picked up where they left off when they scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning in the second game. The Prairie Fire countered with three runs in the top of the second, but the Scots tacked on six runs in the second and another six runs in the third to earn an 18-3 victory in five innings.
Coseglia, Casey Hipp, and Mady Ferris each tallied two hits on the day. Ferris and Sara Lynch each added an RBI in the doubleheader. Hipp smashed a double as well.
Knox will host St. Norbert on April 6 and Lawrence on April 7.
