Softball Earns Split at Beloit

BELOIT, Wisconsin - On a windy Saturday afternoon, the Knox College softball team competed at Beloit College.

The Bucaneers took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Knox countered in the top of the second. Kylie Wolf started the second off with a single to left center. Niamh Pemberton would single to left field after an out by Clare Hensley. With two outs, Britney Salinas would get her second hit of the afternoon. Her double to right center drove in the first run of the game for the Prairie Fire. Mady Ferris then singled to center to drive in another run. Katy Coseglia knocked a hit to left center to bring two more runners home. The Prairie Fire took a 7-3 lead after two innings.

An explosive third inning would increase the Prairie Fire lead to 12-3.  This time, however, Beloit would answer with five runs of their own to narrow the deficit to four. Knox responded once again as Cammie Stein picked up a double to left center field. Coseglia drove in two more runs to give the Prairie Fire a 14-8 lead. Beloit added another run in the fourth and four in the fifth, but Knox held on for the 14-13 victory. Ferris and Coseglia each tallied four hits in the win and Coseglia drove in five runs.

Salinas started the second game with a single. Coseglia joined in on the fun with a hit to left field to bring home Salinas. Beloit responded immediately with two runs in the bottom of the inning and added five more in the second to take an early 7-1 lead. The Bucaneers held on for a 9-1 victory, holding the Prairie Fire to only three hits. Salinas led Knox with a pair of hits.

Knox returns to action on April 16 as they host Illinois College for a conference doubleheader.
