Softball Falls Twice in MWC Doubleheader

GALESBURG, Illinois - After the Sunday games got canceled due to snow, the Prairie Fire softball team played host to Illinois College on a beautiful 70-degree day.
 
Illinois College struck first with an RBI double in the top of the third inning. The Lady Blues would start to separate themselves from Knox when they scored four runs during the top of the fourth.
 
Katy Coseglia knocked the first hit of the for the Prairie Fire, Kenzie Funk reached base after an error, and a wild pitch moved them to second and third. However, Knox could not come up with a two-out hit.
 
Illinois College scored four more runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 9-0. The Prairie Fire got a run in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of a Coseglia double to drive in Mady Ferris. The Lady Blues earned the 9-1 victory in game one.
 
The Prairie Fire held Illinois College scoreless through the first three innings in game two, but the Lady Blues pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. Coseglia came up huge with a solo home-run to cut into the 2-0 deficit. However, Illinois College would add to their lead with a six-run fifth inning. The Prairie Fire put a pair of baserunners on in the bottom of the sixth, but could not get a run home and the Lady Blues won game two 9-1.
 
Coseglia led the Prairie Fire with three hits on the day. Her double in the first game gave her sole possession of the single-season doubles record at Knox.
 
The Prairie Fire will travel to Grinnell on April 20.
