Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Cornell

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader to Cornell on Monday evening.

The Rams struck first with a run in the third inning of game one. Cornell added three more runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Knox put a run on the board in the top of the fifth to cut into the deficit, but the Rams added three more runs in the sixth inning. The Prairie Fire added a run in the seventh, but Cornell plated five runs in the eighth to earn the early victory.

In game two, Knox scored a run in the top of the first to take the early lead. The Rams scored eight runs in the next three innings to take and 8-1 lead. The Prairie Fire plated three runs in the fifth inning to climb back into the game. However, Knox could only muster one more run in the eighth inning and fell 8-5.

Kobe Shutter notched five hits, including a home run, in the doubleheader. Chris McTeague added three hits and Dalton James and Juston Woodard added a pair.

"We were in the conference race going into the last doubleheader," said associate head coach James Clark. "It did not quite happen for us, but we saw a lot of good things and continue to improve."

Knox will host Washington University on May 4.
