GALESBURG, Illinois - The Knox College Prairie Fire softball team dropped a close doubleheader to Lawrence University.

Knox scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an early lead in game one. Cammie Stein got the the Prairie Fire rolling with a single. Britney Salinas got hit by a pitch and Mady Ferris followed up with a single. With the bases loaded, Kenzie Funk came up big with a single to bring home a pair. Lawrence University responded with six runs in the next three innings and took a 6-2 lead. The Prairie Fire added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but it was not enough for a comeback as the Vikings won by the score of 6-4.

The second game saw Knox take an early lead as they scored three runs in the first inning. Britney Salinas would start the afternoon game with a single. Mady Ferris would also single. The two would then execute a double steal to have runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Katy Coseglia hit another double to bring both runners home. Coseglia would then score on a groundout by Casey Hipp. Lawrence would chip at the lead by scoring one run in the second inning and the Vikings added five runs in the sixth inning to seal the game for a 7-3 victory.

Mady Ferris led the Prairie Fire with five hits on the day. Britney Salinas added four hits and Katy Coseglia finished with three hits and three RBI.

Knox Softball will return to action on April 9 against Eureka College.
