Men's Soccer Defeats #15 Centre

DANVILLE, Kentucky – The Knox men's soccer team opened its weekend at the Bob Allen Nissan Classic with a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Centre College.

Senior forward Adetayo Adefioye scored in the sixth minute giving the Prairie Fire a quick lead over the Colonels. This was his third straight game with a goal.

In the 59th minute, senior forward Jun Min scored his second goal of the season for Knox.

The Prairie Fire gave up a goal in the 88th minute to Centre, but were able to hold the Colonel attack in the final two minutes.

First-year goal keeper Joao Freire made five saves, including four in the first half.

Last year, Centre won the Southern Athletic Association conference tournament title and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

"Great win for us. Centre is ranked #15 and they deserve every bit of that ranking. They are a fantastic team," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "I was really pleased with our execution tonight, especially in the second half. Big win for us, but our job is not done. All of our attention is on a tough Spalding team."

Next up for the Prairie Fire is a matchup against Spalding University tomorrow. The Golden Eagles lost their opener of the Bob Allen Nissan Classic to #6 Kenyon College 2-0.
