RIPON, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire men's soccer team won today in dominant fashion against the Ripon College Red Hawks, with a 6-0 scoreline reflecting their dominance in all aspects of the game. The win moves their overall record to 6-2-2 and gives them their first conference win on the season.
It became clear early in the first half that the Prairie Fire had the edge in terms of offensive performance. Knox maintained a persistent presence in Ripon's side of the field, despite only getting off a small amount of shots. A sudden goal by Adetayo Adefioye gave Knox a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish. Indeed, four minutes later the pressure the Prairie Fire were producing on offense netted a penalty kick, which Adefioye converted for his second goal of the game. Knox's aggressive play proved to be too much for Ripon to handle, as they were unable to get a single shot off for the rest of the half, and the Prairie Fire entered the halftime break up 2-0.
The wheels began to fall off for the Red Hawks immediately in the second half, as Knox's offense got shot after shot off. Nick Janulis converted one of those shots in the 51st minute for a goal, and not three minutes later Jun Min also got in on the action and slotted home a goal of his own. Several close shots by Knox later, Adefioye completed his hat trick with his third goal of the day, an excellent goal assisted by Janulis. The Prairie Fire transitioned to playing a more conservative approach after this, which did not stop Hima Elabd from scoring his first goal of the season to give Knox their final score of 6-0 and capping off an impressive day from the Prairie Fire.
"Complete team win today," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "Couldn't be happier with the performance."
The Prairie Fire look to keep their impressive offensive performance going tomorrow when they play at St. Norbert at 1:30 p.m.
