Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Clark Shanahan

Men's Soccer Falls at St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wisconsin—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team suffered a defeat in their game against the St. Norbert Green Knights on Sunday by a score of 0-2. The loss ends their six game unbeaten streak, and moves their conference record to 1-1.

In a slow moving first half, Knox struggled to maintain possession of the ball. A rough playing field made attacking quickly upfield almost impossible. Knox managed to only get a single shot on goal off the entire half, and their physical play resulted in many fouls for them. St. Norbert didn't manage to create very many opportunities, either, as the Prairie Fire defense used the poor conditions to their advantage. As a result, the half ended in a 0-0 tie

Both sides looked very tired as they started play again. Each team probed the midfield, looking for opportunities to exploit a defensive weakness, which neither team showed. A Knox offisde foul and a St. Norbert shot on goal proved to be the only offensive breakthroughs, until Seth Boldt managed to strike a goal off of a rebound, putting the Green Knights up 1-0. Only two minutes later, Boldt scored again on a breakaway, swiftly doubling their lead. Knox struggled to push forward offensively, as even a mass substitution in the 74th minute couldn't provide the spark they needed to gain momentum. By the time the final whistle sounded, the Prairie Fire were unable to get another shot on goal.

"We knew that playing St. Norbert on the road would be a tough test," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "Last time we were up here we beat them, we are looking forward to a rematch in the conference tournament."

Knox looks to bounce back as they travel to Illinois College this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
