DECATUR, Illinois – Under the clear night sky, the Prairie Fire men's soccer team took home their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory at Millikin University.
Â
Knox controlled the first half of Wednesday's game outshooting the Big Blue 10-3, but they came out empty handed after the first 45 minutes of play.
Â
The first score of the night came in the 53
rd minute off a cross landing in a pool of Knox attackers leading the Prairie Fire to take advantage and put one in the net off the foot of senior forward Jun Min.
Â
Senior forward Nick Janulis added another goal in the 60
th minute off a throw-in from sophomore midfielder Sebastio Eca.
Â
Janulis played close to a Big Blue defender and spun around him to connect for his first goal of the season.
Â
Freshman goal keeper Joao Freire recorded his first clean sheet thanks to the defense shutting down the Millikin attack throughout the night allowing only one shot on goal.
Â
"It was a good win against a good team on the road," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "We had a great couple days of training after a disappointing season opener and came out strong tonight. Learning to win on the road is always important for a young team and hopefully we can keep improving and getting the results we need away from home."
Â
Next up for Knox is a matchup at Carthage College on Friday night.
