GALESBURG, Illinois—The Knox Prairie Fire men's basketball team defeated Lawrence 96-83 on Tuesday night. Knox fell to the Vikings 78-58 on the road on December 4.
Lawrence jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but the Prairie Fire scored four straight to pull ahead 6-5. The Vikings hit a trey to retake the lead, but Knox went on a 32-11 run to take a commanding lead. The Prairie Fire shot nearly 67% from the field in the first half to take a 57-38 lead into halftime.
Knox slowed the game down in the second half and the Vikings chipped away at the lead and pulled within 10 at the 10:27 mark. The Prairie Fire responded with another run of their own and soon led by 16. Lawrence again came within 10 points with 1:30 to play, but Knox held on for the victory.
Ethan Meeker led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting. He also dished out five assists. Zach Lowe added 21 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Rayner scored 13 points and Ikenna Ozor and Deryk Ruple each poured in 12. Ozor also blocked eight shots and grabbed eight boards.
"This was an excellent gauge on how far we have come over the last month or so," said head coach Ben Davis. "Lawrence beat us by 20 at their place and we were able to take control of this game early and stop them from making any major runs."
Knox will look to continue their hot play when they travel to Grinnell on Saturday.
