Women's Basketball Wins Big at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team won their fourth straight as they defeated Lake Forest 80-65 on Saturday afternoon.

The Foresters took and early 9-2 lead in the first quarter, but Knox cut into the deficit and only trailed 12-10 with just over 2:00 left in the period. Lake Forest used a 6-3 run to lead 18-13 at the end of the first quarter.

The Prairie Fire tied the game up at 22-22 early in the second quarter when Jessica Lee hit a three-pointer. A few minutes later Jarrelyn McCall hit a pair of free throws to put Knox on top. After some back-and-forth, the Prairie Fire jumped out to a nine point lead heading into halftime.

Knox continued their hot stretch when they came back from the intermission and soon held a 13 point lead. The Foresters clawed back to a single digit deficit as the third quarter concluded.

The Prairie Fire regained their double digit advantage early in the fourth quarter and kept it as they cruised to victory.

McCall led Knox with 22 points and nine rebounds. Kyra Huffman added 19 points and nine rebounds. Catessa Duran poured in 12 points and Lee scored 10.

"It was a great road win again," said head coach Emily Cline. "It is not easy to sweep on the road with very little rest. I am super proud of our team, it truly was a team effort today. Lots of contributors and Kyra and Jarrelyn had big games scoring wise and on the boards."

The Prairie Fire will return to action on February 5 when they host Illinois College.
