Women's Basketball Trounces Beloit

GALESBURG, Illinois— The Knox Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated the Beloit College Buccaneers by a hefty final margin of 70-50. With the win, the Prairie Fire have won six out of their last seven games, and they sit comfortably in fourth for conference play.

The Prairie Fire started off the game in dominant fashion, and would not look back throughout. Jarrelyn McCall continued her excellent form on the heels of her record-setting performance last game, scoring 15 points in the first half on 6-10 shooting from the field. Jessica Lee added 10 points of her own, as the team as a whole shot an impressive 62.1%, including going 3-6 from downtown. Defensively, Knox forced a very formidable 15 turnovers, as their defense swarmed the ball and didn't let up for second. As a result, they entered the half up 42-22.

In the second half, the Prairie Fire coasted on their momentum from the first, not necessarily trying to push the ball up the court. Kyra Huffman put up 10 points and six rebounds as she led the team offensively in the half while she secured a double-double on the game. Knox held the Buccaneers to another sub 40% shooting performance in the half, and their impressive display meant that they would end the game with a nice victory.

McCall led Knox with 20 points. Kyra Huffman added 17 points and 11 rebounds and Jessica Lee scored 16 points.

"We played another great game today," said head Coach Emily Cline. "Our seniors stepped up again and we got some great play from our bench as well. Everyone played well today."

Knox looks to up their win streak when they travel to Illinois College this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
