GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's basketball team won their home game against Illinois College with a score of 88-84 on Wednesday night.
The Prairie Fire started the scoring with a three pointer by Zach Lowe. Illinois College went on a run and took a 13-3 lead. Knox would chip away throughout the first half and managed to get within six points with under a minute left in the first half. The score at the end of the half was 38-30. Ethan Meeker and Matthew Leary played a big part in the first half by both scoring nine points.
The Prairie Fire got off to a slow start in the second half and were down by as much as 15 points with 10:33 left to play. However, Knox would not give up. The Prairie Fire used a 23-0 run to take an eight point lead. Leary hit a trey to give the Prairie Fire the lead and they used their momentum to continue their hot play in the second half. Knox would not lose the lead for the rest of the game and led by as many as 10 points. Illinois College tried to make a run late in the game by getting within four points a few times throughout the last two minutes of the game, but the Prairie Fire were able to secure the victory.
Ethan Meeker led Knox in the comeback win by scoring 26 points. Zach Lowe added 23 points and pulled in eight rebounds. Matthew Leary poured in 16 points and grabbed five boards.
"We have been working up to this for the last few weeks," said head coach Ben Davis. "We know we are capable of playing with every team in the conference and we used a big run to show how we can play. The big thing was we used the momentum to secure the win."
The Prairie Fire will return to action on February 8 as they travel to Cornell College.
