GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's soccer team defeated Beloit 1-0 on Saturday to move to 2-0 in Midwest Conference play and 4-6-1 overall.
The early going was pretty uneventful except for a few shots from Knox. However, Lydia Mitchell broke free and made a move to bury a ball in the back of the net at the 33:30 mark in the first half. The Prairie Fire outshot the Buccaneers 7-0 in the first half and took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Beloit's attack picked up in the second half, but they didn't have much to show for it. The Buccaneers only had one shot on goal, but their best chance was a close one as they played a free kick back just outside the box and Mikaila Davis fired a shot that just missed the upper left corner of the net.
Overall, Knox outshot Beloit 13-3 with a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
"The team came together today to get the win," said head coach Taylor Houck. "Although it was a gloomy day we are excited to be 2-0 to start conference play."
The Prairie Fire return to action as they travel to Monmouth on October 6.
