MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Prairie Fire men's soccer team took down the only remaining undefeated team in the league when they earned a 2-1 win over Cornell on Wednesday afternoon. Knox moves to 5-1-0 in conference play and 8-6-0 overall.
Lucas Piqueras struck early for the Prairie Fire when he found the back of the net in the fifth minute. The goal was assisted by Martin Garcia.
The Rams responded with a goal of their own later in the first half to send the game into halftime with a 1-1 tie.
Raphael Adeyemi put home the game winner in the 75th minute on another assist from Garcia.
The game was fairly evenly contested, with Knox outshooting Cornell 11-8 overall and 4-3 on goal.
"That was a game with a postseason feel," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "It was a great win against a team who is tough to play at home. I'm extremely proud of our side and the heart they showed in this one. We have a short turnaround and another big game on Saturday. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going."
The Prairie Fire return to action when they host Lake Forest on October 23.
