Women's Basketball Picks Up Win Against Eureka

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Eureka 70-57 on Tuesday night to pick up their first win of the young season.

Knox jumped out to an 8-2 lead early in the first quarter. They held the lead throughout the period and led 18-9 heading into the second quarter.

The Prairie Fire expanded their lead to double digits in the second period and led 41-25 by halftime.

Eureka made a brief run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to nine, but Knox came right back and cruised to victory.

Sarina Dacio led the Prairie Fire with 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting from long range. Kristin Herndon picked up a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Saxon Alvarez tallied 11 points and Jessica Lee added 10.

"Composed win tonight for these young women. I thought they did a great job of taking our focus points from our first two games and capitalizing on them," said head coach Kira Mowen. "Eureka made some good runs and I give them a lot of credit for putting up that fight with 7 players. I'm proud of our team for finishing the game tonight."

Knox returns to action when they host Fontbonne on November 23.
