APPLETON, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team dropped a close 66-62 game at Lawrence on Wednesday night.
Jessica Lee scored the first points of the game for Knox with a layup in the first minute of the game. A three-pointer by Haylee Carpenter gave the Prairie Fire an early 11-6 lead, but the Vikings stormed back to tie the game at 13-13 at the end of the first quarter.
A jumper by Lee and a trey by Sarina Dacio gave Knox a 31-20 lead in the second quarter, but Lawrence again responded to send the game into halftime with the Prairie Fire only up 31-30.
The Vikings continued their hot shooting to kick off the second half and soon took an 11-point lead of their own. Lawrence took a 52-42 lead into the final period.
The Vikings expanded on their lead early in the fourth quarter, but Knox still had some fight in them. The Prairie Fire chipped away at a 15-point deficit to bring the game within four in the final seconds, but they ran out of time to complete their comeback.
Duran picked up a double-double to lead Knox with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Lee added 15 points and Dacio tallied 14. Saxon Alvarez also chipped in 10 points.
"I was very proud of the fight our women showed when we were down late in the game," said head coach Kira Mowen. "We are still down a few players and we still battled the whole game. We are seeing a lot of good things and we are very close to putting it all together."
The Prairie Fire return to action as they travel to Ripon on December 11 to continue conference play.
