Baseball Drops a Pair to Beloit

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball fell 9-6 and 19-18 in a doubleheader against Beloit on Saturday.

Beloit grabbed an early lead in game one and a four run rally in the ninth by Knox fell short.

The second game was a back-and-forth affair with each team scoring four runs in the first inning. The Prairie Fire took a 9-8 lead in the fifth inning and held a 14-13 advantage heading into the ninth inning, but Beloit forced extra innings and outscored Knox 5-4 in the final frame.

Ben Rogina had a huge day at the plate for the Prairie Fire, finishing 4-for-4 with eight RBI. He knocked a home-run and a double on the day. Matt Shover tallied four hits and Chris McTeague, Ben Bucher, and Brayden Bathgate each notched three. Kendall Ballman also hit a home-run.

"We had our chances today," said associate head coach James Clark. "The best thing about baseball early in the season is that we get to do it again tomorrow."

Knox travels to Beloit on Sunday for a rematch with the Buccaneers.
