GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team fell 14-0 and 8-4 in a doubleheader against Beloit on Sunday.
Beloit grabbed an early lead in game one and held the lead. The second game went back and forth in the first few innings, but Beloit grabbed the lead during the fourth inning.
The second game was a back-and-forth affair with each team scoring 2 runs in the first inning. The Prairie Fire took a 3-2 lead in the second inning and held a the advantage heading into the fourth inning, but Beloit grabbed the lead with a 3-run homerun during the fourth.
Cammie Stein had a big day for the Prairie Fire going 2 of 4 at the plate in the second game and earning 2 RBIs and earning a run of her own. Kenzie Funk also had a solid day for the Fire. Funk went 2 for 4 at the plate and scored twice for the Fire in the second match.
"We are extremely proud of how the team played today. Even though we didn't get the outcome we wanted, they had the energy and focus needed to be successful," said acting head coach Lexie Vernon. "We are looking forward to seeing what this team can do as we come into our own."
Knox travels to Illinois College on Saturday, April 3rd to face off against the Lady Blues.Â
