GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team fell to Illinois College 4-0 and 3-0 in their Midwest Conference openers on Saturday.
The Lady Blues scored three runs in the third inning of game one to take the lead, but Knox only allowed one more run to score in the game.
Illinois College plated a run in the top of the first inning of game two to take an early lead. The Lady Blues added runs in the third and seventh innings to sweep the doubleheader.
Maya McEwen and Kenzie Funk led the Prairie Fire with two hits apiece.
Mimi Schweitzer turned in her second straight start with only three runs allowed in game two.
"I'm proud of how much we improved since we played Illinois College a few weeks ago," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "We played very tough defense against a very good team, as long as we keep building and learning we should finish the season strong."
Knox returns to action as they host Cornell on April 18.
