GALESBURG, Illinois - The Knox College softball team fell short to Grinnell College in today's doubleheader 12-5 and 5-3.Â
The Grinnell Pioneers came strong to both games scoring runs immediately in the first inning. In game one, Grinnell took an early 3-0 lead and held on through the rest of the game. In game two, the Pioneers again scored an early 3 runs in the first, but Knox followed with two of their own. Knox was able to tie up the game in the third inning, but fell 5-3 at the end of 7.
Cammie Stein and Kenzie Funk came to hit in today's games. Stein went 5 for 8 on the day with 2 runs. Funk was a defensive standout throughout the day, keeping the Prairie Fire close in the second game. Funk also added offensively going 4 for 6 on the day with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Maya McEwen came swinging in game two going 2 for 3 and adding 2 RBIs.
"We bounced back again in game two," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "We had a real chance to win in game two, but came up just short. We are showing flashes of how good we can be, now we just have to put it all together at the same time."
The Prairie Fire return to action Saturday, April 24th at Monmouth College.Â
