Women's Soccer Plays to Tie with Rose-Hulman

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's soccer team played host to a tough Rose-Hulman team on Wednesday. The teams played to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

The Fighting Engineers came into the game with a perfect 3-0 record, outscoring their opponents 15-0.

Rose-Hulman took control for much of the first half, firing off seven shots with nothing to show for it. Knox did get a few good looks with their three shots in the half.

The Fighting Engineers came out of halftime on a mission and scored a goal in the 73rd minute to take the lead. The Prairie Fire stepped up their game and had numerous near misses, but Lydia Mitchell finally found the back of the net at the 79:39 mark. Knox continued to press hard in the final minutes of regulation, but Mitchell's goal ultimately secured a chance in overtime.

The Prairie Fire had some more good chances and continued their torrid play in overtime, while Rose-Hulman also had some great chances. In the end, the teams came up evenly matched and settled for a tie.

The Fighting Engineers outshot Knox 20-15 overall and just 9-7 in shots on goal. Prairie Fire goalkeepers Carina Escobar and Alexis Coronilla combined for eight saves.

"I am very proud with today's game and result," said head coach Taylor Houck. "Rose-Hulman is a fierce competitor and today we showed we are as well. We have been working hard on different parts of our style and our players excelled in those areas today. I am very excited to keep moving forward and to keep competing with high caliber opponents."

Knox returns to action as they host North Central on September 19 for the Faculty and Staff Appreciation Game.
