GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's soccer team fell 7-0 to No. 2 University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons are averaging over 6.0 goals per game as they moved to 8-0 on the season.
Knox moved to 2-6-1 on the season after playing a very tough non-conference schedule in the early going of the season. The Prairie Fire should be set up well as they head into conference play next week.
Knox kept the University of Chicago off the board for the first thirteen minutes, but the Maroons scored six quick goals over the next 22 minutes to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.
The Prairie Fire kept Chicago from scoring again until the 76th minute.
The Maroons have yet to give up a goal this season, but Louise Schoeffel missed scoring a pair of goals by inches on some very good strikes.
"We knew going into this game that we were facing a nationally ranked opponent and needed to hold our own," said head coach Taylor Houck. "I think we let the nerves get to us a bit in the first half, but we showed just how strong we are during the second half. We shut down an amazing team during the second half and I couldn't be more proud of our team for making the changes and being a force to reckon with during the second half."
Knox will begin Midwest Conference play on September 28 as they host Grinnell.
