GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire men's soccer team earned a 4-2 victory over Monmouth on Wednesday afternoon.
Luis Lepervanche put Knox on the board early with a goal in the 16th minute. Alex White tacked on a goal in the 18th minute to give the Prairie Fire a 2-0 lead.
The Fighting Scots responded with a score of their own in the 30th minute, but Knox held on to a 2-1 lead at halftime.
White found the back of the net again in the 47th minute to start the second half off with a bang.
In the 50th minute, Monmouth was awarded a penalty kick and they scored to bring the game back within a point.
White took a penalty kick for Knox in the 60th minute and hit it home for a hat trick.
The Prairie Fire defense hunkered down and came away with the victory.
The Fighting Scots outshot Knox 10-8 overall, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.
Nicolas Lantzendorffer picked up five saves in goal for the Prairie Fire.
"We didn't play our best game today," said head coach Kevwe Akpore. "However, we battled through it and came away with a big victory over our rival. This may be the toughest we have been all year with multiple starters out and we still found a way to win."
Knox will return to action on October 8 as they host Lawrence for senior day.
