Women's Basketball Blasts Past Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Blackburn 87-42 on Friday night to begin the season 2-0.

Knox and the Beavers were tied 10-10 through the first four minutes of the game, but the Prairie Fire pulled away with 13 straight points to close out the first quarter.

Knox continued their run with the first six points of the second period and outscored Blackburn 24-4 to take a 47-14 lead into halftime.

The Prairie Fire slowed down a bit in the second half, but still outscored the Beavers 40-28.

Kristin Herndon put on a shooting clinic with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the Prairie Fire. She also hit 5-of-5 free throws, pulled down eight rebounds, and blocked five shots. Catessa Duran and Mae Callahan each added 10 points. Sarina Dacio tallied nine points.

Knox saw 14 different players grab a board and 13 different players score in the game. The Prairie Fire only turned the ball over six times.

"Any win like that is a good win," said head coach Kira Mowen. "I'm proud of our effort on the boards! I also particularly love that we didn't turn the ball over. All of these little pieces will help us as we get further into the season and with our competition. Another great team effort, any time we can get significant minutes for everyone on the roster I'm pleased with as a coach."

The Prairie Fire return to action on November 15 as they host Coe in their home opener.
