Football Drops Turkey Bowl to Monmouth

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire football dropped the Turkey Bowl to Monmouth 56-0 on Saturday. Before the game, Knox honored 10 seniors playing in the final game of their career.

The Prairie Fire had a promising first drive after Trevor Geggie ran back the opening kickoff 28 yards and Kaile Williams reeled off a 23 yard rush. Knox attempted to go for it on fourth down from the Monmouth 20-yard line, but came up short.

The Fighting Scots scored on the next possession to take a 7-0 lead. Monmouth then blocked the Knox punt on the ensuing possession to set them up for another quick score.

Monmouth forced a fourth-and-out by Knox in the next possession and scored again. The Prairie Fire fumbled the kickoff and set the Fighting Scots up for another score to finish the first quarter with a 28-0 lead.

Monmouth added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 49-0 lead into halftime. The Fighting Scots added one more TD in the second half to claim victory.

Williams led the Prairie Fire with 49 rushing yards, Geggie added 140 return yards and 28 rushing yards. Ean Rau racked up 13 tackles for the Knox defense. Kendall Ballman added nine tackles.

"It was great to honor our seniors before the game," said head coach Aaron Willits. "Unfortunately we did not execute our game plan on the field and could not get much going on either side of the ball after a promising start."

Knox finishes their season at 5-5 to tie their best record since going 6-4 in 2002. They also won four conference games, the most since going 5-4 in 2002. Willits has won seven conference games in two seasons at the helm, matching the seven wins in the previous six seasons.
