GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Central College 89-73 on Wednesday afternoon.
Knox came out hot with the first eight points of the game and led 14-3 with 6:12 left in the first quarter. The Dutch chipped away at the lead over the next few minutes to trail just 21-15, but the Prairie Fire finished the quarter strong to take a 28-18 lead after one period.
Central used an 11-3 run in the second quarter to tie the game at 42-42 and went into halftime with a 50-49 lead.
Knox retook the lead early in the third quarter and soon built back their double-digit advantage. Heading into the final quarter, the Prairie Fire led 71-61.
Knox continued to tack on points in the fourth period and soon led by 19 points with 5:02 to play. The Prairie Fire cruised to their third victory of the season.
Sarina Dacio led Knox with 19 points, hitting five three-pointers. Kristin Herndon (18 points, 11 boards) and Catessa Duran (14 points, 16 rebounds) both put up double-doubles. Sophie Elstone added 10 points.
"This was a great rebound game after a tough loss last week," said head coach Kira Mowen. "We played very well for most of the game. Central adjusted to our play in the second quarter and we had to readjust, but once we did we played very well down the stretch."
Knox returns to action on November 29 when they open up conference play at Grinnell.
