RIVER FOREST, Illinois - The Prairie Fire men's basketball team dropped a 66-43 contest at Dominican University on Wednesday night.
Knox jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first seven minutes of the game, but the Stars used a 13-2 run to take the lead with 8:28 to play in the first half. Dominican expanded their run to 21-6, but the Prairie Fire came back to take a 25-24 lead with 46 seconds to play in the half. A layup with two seconds left put the Stars back on top by one heading into halftime.
Knox scored the first four points of the second half, but Dominican used a 24-6 stretch over the next 11 minutes to take a commanding lead. Altogether, the Stars outscored the Prairie Fire 40-18 in the second half to secure the victory.
Jordan Rayner led Knox with 10 points. Matt Garife added nine points and Aidan Derry pulled down 10 rebounds.
"We started the game strong and fought throughout the first half," said head coach Ben Davis. "Things fell apart in the second half. At the end of the day, we just didn't shoot well enough to score points and Dominican got hot in the second half to pull away from us."
The Prairie Fire return to action on December 17 as they travel to Lindenwood for a D1 Exhibition game.
