Women's Basketball Drops Game at Principia

ELSAH, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team lost a non-conference game 74-63 at Principia on Friday night.

Knox took an early 7-3 lead in the first quarter, but the teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the period to work to a 21-21 tie heading into the second quarter.

The Prairie Fire built up a six point lead in the second period, but the Panthers came back to tie the game at 34-34 at halftime.

Principia got hot out of the half and soon led 51-40 after a 17-6 run. The Panthers maintained their 11-point lead at the end of the period, leading 56-45.

Knox cut into the lead early in the fourth quarter, working to just a five point deficit with 3:16 to play. Principia finished on a 9-3 run to claim victory.

Catessa Duran led Knox with 11 points and 11 rebounds to pick up the double-double. Sarina Dacio added 11 points, hitting 3-of-9 attempts from long range. Kylee Callahan and Sophie Elston each tallied nine points.

"We shot well in the first and fourth quarters, but we fell behind when we shot just 23% in both the second and third quarters," said head coach Kira Mowen. "We were able to stay in the game despite the shooting problems because we did a lot of other things well, but it wasn't quite enough."

Knox returns to action on December 7 as they host Lawrence for a Midwest Conference matchup.
