LAKE FOREST, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Lake Forest 71-48 on Thursday night. Knox is on a seven game winning streak, matching a streak by the 2019-20 team.
The Foresters took an early 9-5 lead in the first quarter, but the Prairie Fire finished the period on a 15-3 run to take a 20-12 lead.
Knox dominated the next two quarters, outscoring Lake Forest 37-15. The Foresters held a 21-14 advantage in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late.
Catessa Duran led the Prairie Fire with 12 points and nine rebounds. Jessica Lee and Haylee Carpenter each added 11 points, while Saxon Alvarez tallied 10 points.
"Tonight we were able to play and develop some of our younger players," said head coach Kira Mowen. "Anytime you get to play everyone on your bench, it's a good team win. As we are winding down our conference schedule it's vital for us as a program to continue to build on our concepts and tonight we did that. Our starters and returners handled business in the first few quarters which gave us momentum to get everyone in. I'm proud of our team effort on the road and happy that I was able to play everyone as yesterday was National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Every single one of my players success and achievements should inspire those that come after them. Proud coaching moment today."
Knox returns to action on February 5 as they host Cornell.
