GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team fell to Beloit 8-0 and 6-4 in Midwest Conference play on Sunday afternoon.
The Buccaneers scored five runs in the first inning of game one to take an early lead. They added three runs in the fourth inning to win in five innings.
Beloit led 3-0 after four innings in game two, but Knox cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Buccaneers responded with three runs in the top of the sixth, but the Prairie Fire came right back with two runs of their own. Knox put a pair of baserunners on in the seventh inning to bring the winning run to the plate. However, the final two batters made outs to stop the rally.
Maya McEwen, Britney Salinas, and Taylynn Kizer led the Prairie Fire with three hits apiece. McEwen, Salinas, Kizer, and Tina Vargas each drove in runs.
"We rallied hard in that second game," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "We were right there at the end. We made a few mistakes that cost us some runs, but overall I am proud of our fight."
Knox returns to action on April 15 as they travel to Ripon for a conference doubleheader.
