APPLETON, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a 14-2 Midwest Conference game at Lawrence on Saturday.
The Vikings scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead, but Knox responded with a run of their own in the top of the second. After a slight weather delay, Lawrence jumped on the board for nine more runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a commanding lead. The Prairie Fire managed to just give up three runs the rest of the game, but only scored once more to fall in seven innings.
Kendall Ballman, Ben Bucher, and Brayden Bathgate all tallied hits for the Prairie Fire. Bathgate drove in a run.
"Another bad inning did us in," said associate head coach James Clark. "Lawrence is good this year and their pitcher has been excellent all season. We left 10 runners on base against him and credit to him for getting out of the jams. It does show that we can compete with good teams when we execute. We just have to limit the damage and avoid the big inning."
Knox returns to action with a doubleheader at Lawrence on May 1 to conclude the season series against the Vikings.
