GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team fell to Lake Forest 6-3 and 15-6 in a Midwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
The Foresters scored six runs in the first three innings of game one, but Knox rallied for three runs in the fifth inning to bring the game within striking distance. Neither team scored the last two innings.
Lake Forest again jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game, but the Prairie Fire scored five runs in the fourth inning. The Foresters tacked on nine runs over the final two innings to put the game out of reach.
Casey Hipp and Taylynn Kizer led Knox with three hits apiece. Kizer tallied four RBI on the day
"I was proud of the way we battled today," said head coach Erin Rutledge. "We couldn't quite finish as strongly, but much better than the games at IC. We are battling some injuries and I thought it was even more impressive that we played so hard all day."
The Prairie Fire return to action on April 10 as they host Beloit.
