LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Prairie Fire women's soccer team dropped a close 2-0 contest at Transylvania on Thursday afternoon.
Knox and the Pioneers played to a scoreless first half and looked to be trending towards a tie until Transylvania scored twice in the 75th minute.
The Pioneers outshot the Prairie Fire 20-2 overall, but held just a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
"We played tight defense for much of the game, only allowing off target shots," said head coach Rob Battisson. "Credit to Transylvania for breaking through for a pair of goals. We did a lot of good things, but still have things to work on. We will get back to work."
Knox faces a tough non-conference schedule to begin the season and will try to find success when they host Illinois Wesleyan on September 4 in their home opener.
