GALESBURG, IL - The women's basketball team came up short against the Ripon Redhawks on Saturday evening, dropping the conference match-up 72-61.
The Prairie Fire took a quick 10-3 lead in the first quarter. The Redhawks came back around quick, taking the lead and outscoring the Prairie Fire 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Ripon managed to keep control of the game in the second quarter, and led the Fire 37-27 going into the half.
The Prairie Fire worked hard to close the gap in the third quarter and outscored the Redhawks 21-19, but unfortunately were unable to take the lead. Knox trailed by eight points going into the fourth and final quarter.
The Redhawks stayed ahead and ultimatly claimed a 72-61 victory over the Prairie Fire.
Kylee Callahan led the Prairie Fire with 23 points. Bria Medina added 11 points of her own. Nyah Daniels tallied 10 points.
"It wasn't our best game today" said Head Coach Seth McDowell. "We definitely have some things we need to work on as a team, but I'm confident that we will work hard to have some of our kinks worked out by the time we face another conference team. Ripon is a tough team, and unfortunately they got the best of us tonight, but we will learn from it."
The Prairie Fire women's basketball team will return to play on December 12th as they travel to Aurora University.
