MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 68-53 victory at Cornell on Saturday. Knox also moved to 12-0 in conference play, a new program best. The Prairie Fire also won their 17th game, the most for the program since the 1989-90 season.
The Rams kept the game close to start the game, but Knox began pulling away midway through the first quarter and took a 22-15 lead into the second period.
Cornell surged back to within three in the second quarter, but the Prairie Fire maintained the lead through the rest of the half to lead 37-31 at halftime.
Knox built up a double-digit lead early in the second half. The Rams never came within eight points the rest of the game.
Catessa Duran led the Prairie Fire with 24 points on a 9-of-16 showing from the field. Kristin Herndon earned her second straight double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Kylee Callahan scored nine points, dished out seven assists, and grabbed six boards.
"Cornell is a tough team and gave us trouble at times," said head coach Kira Mowen. "We were able to stop their runs and then pull away at the end of the game. Another great team win."
Knox returns to action as they travel to Monmouth on February 8.
