Softball Splits on First Day in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Florida - The Knox softball team recently landed in sunny Florida for some spring break competition. Today was the team's first day of play and ended the day with the Prairie Fire splitting a pair of games.

Knox began game one against Clarkson strong with four runs in the first inning. Clarkson rounded out the first inning with two runs and another eleven runs in the second inning. Knox attempted to narrow Clarkson's lead in inning three and ultimately lost 13-5.

Game two against Gallaudet started strong with Knox scoring six runs in the first two innings. The Prairie Fire held Gallaudet in the first two innings, and gave up only three runs in innings three and four. The game ended with a Knox victory, 7-3.

Maddie Poetzinger led the Prairie Fire with five hits and three RBIs. Maddie Hicks earned her first collegiate win on the mound with the assistance of Aaliyah Anderson with her pitching debut.

"We are excited to be here, and had hoped to end day one with two wins," Coach Erin Clark stated, "However, we learned a lot from today and are ready to come back stronger on Thursday".

The Prairie Fire will enjoy a day off tomorrow, and will continue play on March 16th against Roger Williams and Augsburg.
