Softball Falls Twice in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Florida - Today the Knox softball team faced some tough competition, facing Roger Williams and Augsburg for the day. The Prairie Fire ended the day with two losses.

Game one against Roger Williams started off strong with a scoreless inning from both teams. The Prairie Fire attempted to rally the bats in inning two and ultimately left one runner on with no scored runs. Roger Williams pushed out six runs in the bottom of inning two. After a six run inning, the Prairie Fire fought hard to battle back and produce runs, but fell short. Roger Williams scored three more runs in inning four and sealed the deal with a 9-0 win.

Augsburg began game two with a two run lead in the first inning, but the lead quickly turned into a tie game as the Prairie Fire rallied their bats and scored a couple runs of their own. The next two innings remained scoreless from both teams. Augsburg scored one run in inning four and Knox fought hard with solid contact throughout the game. The Prairie Fire came up just short and ended a competitive game with a 3-2 loss.

Ally Hyde led the team with two hits on the day. Morgan Bean, Haylee Carpenter, Maddie Poetzinger, Mimi Schweitzer, and Tina Vargas all add one hit for the day.

"We fell a little short today," said head coach Erin Clark, "We kept our strikeouts low and consistently put the ball in play. Once we string a few things together, we hope to see different results and more wins".

The Knox softball team will continue play in Auburndale tomorrow, March 17, against College of St. Scholastica and Lakeland University.
