DAVENPORT, Florida - The Prairie Fire baseball team lost to Williams 11-6 in their final game in Florida on Monday.
Knox struck first with three runs in the top of the first inning on RBI singles by Nick Stan and Etienne Thomas and a steal of home by Evan Laws.
The Ephs scored three in the bottom of the second inning to tie it up and then added two more in the bottom of the third to take the lead.
The Prairie Fire tied the game in the top of the fourth as Troy Brandt doubled home Stan and Thomas.
Williams added a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 9-5 lead.
Braden Ogden singled home Andrew Garrett in the top of the seventh, but the Ephs responded with two of their own and they held on for the victory.
Cole Shepherd finished the day 3-for-4 to lead Knox. Ogden, Stan, and Thomas each chipped in two hits apiece.
"We had a good day at the plate, but we gave up too many free bases on the defensive end," said associate head coach James Clark. "We battled, but just came up short. We saw a lot of good things on this trip and also have some things to work on. We'll work on getting better each day."
Knox returns to action on March 25 as they begin conference play with a three game set at University of Chicago.
