RIPON, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped the series finale 10-7 to Ripon on Sunday.
The Red Hawks scored twice in the first inning to take another early lead, but Knox tied the game with two runs in the third inning. Ripon responded with a five run fourth inning to take a commanding lead. The Red Hawks tacked on a single run in each of the next two innings, but the Prairie Fire would not go down without a fight.
Doubles by Luke Mathieu and Evan Laws earned Knox a three-run seventh inning. The Prairie Fire added two more runs in the eighth to pull within two. Ripon added a run in the bottom half of the eighth and held on for the victory.
Jason Clark and Jeff Ripka tallied three hits apiece to lead Knox at the plate. Laws drove in three runs as well.
"We played hard all weekend and came up just short in all three games," said associate head coach James Clark. "Even though we didn't come away with a win, we were competitive and played our best baseball since early in the season. I'm proud of the guys and hope we can use this as a stepping stone for the rest of the season."
The Prairie Fire return to action on April 26 as they host Illinois College for a conference doubleheader.
