GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader to Illinois College on Wednesday.
Game one was scoreless through four, but the Blueboys erupted for four runs in the fifth thanks to a home-run and a few Knox errors.
Illinois College added two more in the sixth, but the Prairie Fire responded with two runs in the bottom half. The Blueboys added two more in the seventh to cruise to an 8-2 victory.
Game two was tied 1-1 through four innings before Illinois College busted the game open with five runs in the fifth inning. The last few innings were sloppy on both sides with the Blueboys coming away with a 12-8 win.
Cole Shepherd and Luke Mathieu each tallied three hits to lead Knox for the day.
"We played well in the early part of both games, but as soon as something goes wrong we fall apart," said associate head coach James Clark. "We have to be better at bouncing back and limiting the big innings. If we do that in game two we should have won the game, but we let it get away and then kept bleeding runs."
The Prairie Fire will return to action on April 27 at Augustana.
