LAKE FOREST, Illinois - The Prairie Fire softball team dropped a conference doubleheader to Lake Forest 15-7 and 7-3 on Friday evening.
Knox scored a run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead in game one, but the Foresters responded with six runs in the bottom half. The Prairie Fire roared back with five runs in the top of the second to tie the game. Lake Forest took control with four more runs in the second and cruised to a six inning victory.
The Foresters took a 7-0 lead into the sixth inning of game two, but Knox clawed back with three runs in the final two innings to make the game close at the end.
Maddie Poetzinger led the Prairie Fire with three hits and four runs batted in on the day. Eileen Sheetz, Liv Dunn, and Lacey Miller added two hits apiece.
"We put up a fight in both games," said head coach Erin Clark. "Ally and Mimi both had stretches where they pitched well, but in the end walks and errors did us in. Proud of the offense for not giving up."
Knox will return to action as they travel to Beloit on April 8.
